Assessment & Deadlines
The
module is assessed 100% by coursework:
Research
Proposal: 3,000 words (100%).
Deadline
- Wednesday Week 12.
Assessment
Guidelines
The module is assessed 100% by coursework:
- Written
assignment of 3000 words or equivalent
The
aim of the assessment is to write a 'virtual' application for funding for a
specific theatre project. This is based on the 'Oxford Samuel Becket Theatre'
Award (see http://www.osbttrust.com/) but also the
AHRC (see www.ahrc.ac.uk). Guidelines on
how to submit applications to these bodies are available on their websites and
may be useful.
The
structure of the application should include:
1. Title
2. Aims
and Objectives
3. Research
Context
4. Describe
the visual aesthetic of the intended work
5. Write
an imagined, ideal review of the work.
The application should deploy full Harvard
referencing and should include a bibliography of related
reading/research/productions etc to help contextualise your proposed project.
The bibliography and references should NOT be included in the word count. It is
up to you to decide the appropriate word length for each section. Sample
academic applications will be made available for you to refer to for guidance
to assist you with the application.
Title
This should not be an
afterthought but should reflect precisely your research question/focus.
Aims
and Objectives
Here you must spell out what
your project/production will do, for whom, what your process will be and how
you will achieve the aims.
Research
Context
This should place your proposed project in a
broader context. Is it following a
particular line of work, challenging a particular tradition? What writings are
useful for your project? Which practitioners will you make reference to and are
you following and developing from?
The
visual aesthetic of the intended work
This should outline the artistic approach you
will take in your process and in the production/project. Here you can be more
descriptive/imaginative but it also needs to be connected to a sense of an
imagined budget/production realities.
Review
Here you can imagine being a
spectator/critical viewer of the production. Evaluate its potential weaknesses
and dangers, but also what its strengths and achievements could be. This needs
to be analytical but also reflective. It also gives you scope to imagine how
the project might develop given future ambitions, further funding, a larger
team etc. dream, but dream realistically.
